<reviewbody>The torch has been passed. Sitting behind me was a 22 year old dude and his girlfriend who just moved to SF from the midwest. He said it was his first time seeing any GD member live. <reviewbody>Rosemary is responsible for this being available
http://rosemary.dyndns.org/

and says
Funniest line from the peanut gallery behind the tapers last night: “You been bootlegged on archive!” I paid little mind to this then- as it is true folks cross-post my recordings in different transfer mediums, and I respect that.

But when cross-posting, first-thing, the poster generally performs a citation – a line like: “This recording was downloaded via bittorrent from http://rosemary.dyndns.org, and is provided here for those who cannot bittorrent”.

This was not done for either of these recordings; moreover there is no mention of the download source at all (save for buried in the .txt files I wrote). That’s a bummer. I put a huge amount of time, effort, energy, heart & soul into making this rosemary site available, super-eco-friendly (rosemary kicks archives’ ass in terms of resource consumption), a positive & open community resource and sounding box -- as well as post-processing those recordings pronto to sound nice & get them online.

Well, the 16th sounds as good as the others & is ready to roll- but I’m not posting it until I see something change over on archive about this circumstance w/ the other two.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>Hi and thank you for reading my Review. Phil, when you said you didn't know you would be performing full albums of Grateful Dead...well, I didn't either... Man, that was so cool - and when the angel appeared on the balcony soffit and you were in 'Dead Pan', if you will, man, I get physical goose bumps when thinking about it - then being able to listen as well, via archive, oh - just 'observationingly surreal'.

Thank you Phil (and all who) provide this venue of enlightenment, encourage donorism and fight the good fight.

The day after the show my teenager said that when going to our balcony seats she almost burst out in tears because she could feel the LOVE in the place.

Thanks again for the life shifting experience Phil and Friends. Thank you too Jackie Green amazing watching you with Phil after seeing you in Sac many times. Mardi Gras show and then 5/14...wow. That harp playing is so sweet. Love the singing too.

Smiles, Mark</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>I agree that it's a nice twist to hear entire albums stretched out over a set, and it was a treat to hear some of the tunes off of "Aoxomoxoa", while the vocalist angel in the wings was a nice touch as well.

Phil lost me a few years back because of the overextended jams, often times being a bit too sleepy. The second set was not particularly interesting, partly due to a 35 - 40 minute Dark Star then followed by repeating the entire St. Stephen. Simply put, they have too many songs to play it twice in its 15-20 minute entirety.

I may not be as diehard as others, but I"ve been to many shows over the years, and I also want to see these musicians show their viruosity. I like what Larry Campbell brings to the songs and he was clearly taking a back seat to Mark Karan in the 2nd set, and could have lent some different chops than the same Jerry licks played over and over.

In a highly altered state it may be more bearable, but I was bored by the same scales in the solos over and over again. The tease into other songs is a nice touch, yet they still seemed to hold little alure by not taking off with them. If one is to extend songs so long, can the guitarists (BTW, nice to see Mark Karan) maybe try some harmonic chords and maybe some more interesting scales? I mean, really, how much can Major and minor scales do in one song before they get downright old and tired. Can they change keys once in a while, for crying out loud?

It was a grand night, and I was having fun, but the potential for Phil & Friends is to be mind blowing, and they could be without changing much of what they are already doing.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>There is so much good stuff here. The 46 minutes of Dark Star just slide by smooth and sweet. The angel in the wings sounds damn fine, and a great sense of quality and heart flows throughout the show.

As for the 2 St. Stephens, the first one is short, album style. The second is far more extended, and explodes into The Eleven. Even Lovelight shines here. Great show.</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>All of you West Coast deadheads are truly fortunate to have caught such a sweet run!

On a side note, why should the fans suffer for one missing citation? Tapers should get credit where credit is due, but don't hold that over the fans. The shows should be posted. Jerry always said, once were done with the music you can have it.

It's time for everyone to grow up and just post those shows, please</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>Am I the only one willing to state the obvious? Phil never had a great singing voice, & age & vocal chord damage haven't improved things! I'll probably get flamed over this, but that's just reality.

Think of it this way: generally speaking, a great band is composed of talented musicians playing great music. If one of the musicians in the band is unable to play their instrument well, or plays out of tune, the quality of the music being created by the entire band suffers. A person's voice is a musical instrument, the quality of which is an integral ingredient in the end product being produced, i.e., the music being played.

Consider this: how much better or worse was the Dead with Keith on keyboards versus T.C.? Overall the same band, just a different keyboardist, vastly different music

Don't get me wrong--I'm a HUGE Phil fan! I think he's an incredibly talented musician, used to love it when he sang Box or Tom Thumb, & would have killed to hear him play "Pride of Cucamonga" back in the day! Box & Unbroken Chain are two of my favorite songs!

But just because I love Phil doesn't mean that I'm ignorant of the obvious. Phil's done a great job of keeping the spirit of the Grateful Dead alive, & I'm appreciative of that. However, with so many people able to sing so much better . . . well, I just wish he'd let them.

That said, it's his band, so I guess he can do whatever the hell he wants to do! And quite frankly that's what I think he's doing. At this point in his career Phil doesn't need to prove anything to anyone, so I think he probably does whatever is the most fun, interesting, and challenging thing for him! And if he has fun singing & thinks it's interesting to play weird songs that no one else particularly likes, well, so be it. We're all just passengers on his bus, so we gotta' go where he wants to go.

One more thing: 5 stars for this show? Are you kidding me? Yea, I'd give it 5 stars for it's weirdness/unique set list, but there's a reason why Rosemary & What's Become of the Baby never made it into the Dead's rotation--'cause they ain't 5 Star songs!

Sorry if I'm raining on your parade, just my $0.02.

Not that it really matters, but I was (in the balcony) at this show. And by the way, many thanks to the manager of a local cannabis club who was passing out fatties like candy throughout the entire show! I don't smoke anymore but am pretty sure I caught a contact high!</reviewbody>

<reviewbody>No way!! It isn't with Jerry and so it doesn't compare. I did see some great Dark Stars, and some clunkers, but to say that because it was 46 minutes makes it as good as the real thing with the real players is ridiculous. I saw Phish rip a 35 minute Viola Lee with Phil, but it was not the Dead doing it. It may have been great to see, but don't confuse Dead members playing dead songs with non-Dead people with the real thing.</reviewbody>
